I started this blog because I believe an antiracist analysis and organizing strategy is needed as we approach one of the most important elections in the nation's history this November 2020.
As I begin, I first want to give public thanks to Jeff Hitchcock and CDD Books for publishing Deep Denial in October 2016. Neither he nor I anticipated the sea change that would sweep the United States just one month after it was published, when Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. As a people, we woke to the reality that racism continues as a sinister force threatening to tear down our democracy.
Interest in race and white supremacy exploded with intense urgency. As a newly-published author of a book that (as the subtitle suggests) seeks to explain "the persistence of White Supremacy in U.S. history and life," I was invited to give presentations across the nation. I used the extensive antiracist network of The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond to make over 100 presentations in just two years ; nearly 7000 copies of the book were sold - a remarkable feat for such a small niche audience, as antiracist progressives were seen then.
Nearly 4 years later, Deep Denial is seen not only as prescient but as pointing the way out of this white supremacist nightmare the nation finds itself in. Interest in re-issuing Deep Denial has grown; I hope it will be read by a wider mainstream audience.
This blog is where I plan to sharpen my own analysis; it will benefit from your comments as I update and expand the book. I welcome you to join me in this endeavor!
