Dr. Cheryl Franks is an anti racist community organizer and professor at John Jay University, School for Criminal Justice. She is a white racial identity theorist of some renown. In the People's Institute work with the Schools of Social Work in New York City during the early 2000's, she lent instant credibility to our analysis and was instrumental in our work with the profession. Cheryl Franks, along with Marion Ridell , are saluted and acknowledged for their
lifetime of commitment to the struggle for equity and anti racism. This video, now almost 20 years old, is a relevant testimony to that work. I wanted to include it in my BLOG and am honored to do so.
Cheryl's explanation of Dr. Janet Helms' model of white racial identity development is excellent - and as important now as it was 25 years ago. White people develop our racial identities through reflection and social relationships. We can be intentional about developing our identities as anti-racist activists!
